If this has already been covered, appologies in advance. I bought an 89 3.9 powered Dak for my kid to learn to wrench on and when we were inspecting it we found that the air intake hose that runs to the air cleaner has a "T" halfway up the run that goes to the computer. My question is ,first why is this done and second does getting rid of it hurt emissions or the quality of operation?
Also has anyone ever tried to reroute the vacum lines that run to the three modules at the rear of the motor on the passenger side valve cover. I would like to make these lines longer and mount this thing on the firewall to help clean up the looks of the engine when we replace the valve cover gaskets. The bracket for these things also has the loom for one of the spark plug wires. I mention this for identification. Any help or opinion is appreciated. Hwystar

That tube is to help cool the PCM. Early PCMs generated a lot of heat, and their heat dissapation was pretty lacking. Later PCMs had vent holes in the casing and more heatsinks installed. I have a 92 Lebaron that has the PCM integrated into the intake tubing for cooling. You can remove that T-tube and it should not hurt emissions, but you may run the risk of overheating the PCM. Of course, with as small a tube that it uses, you could easily get a 12v computer case fan and figure out a way to mount it to the hole and help pull the heat out of it that way.
