I live in upstate NY and really need a stainless catback exhaust system when I upgrade and I wondered what had a good deep (flowmaster type) sound that also comes in stainless?
Yes; I too wish flowmaster systems came in stainless...
I have a 05 quad 4x4 with the 4.7H.O. and I would like to actually hear it! I can hear a little rumble with the stock pipe, but it's just not enough.
I have heard Gibsons are sold in stainless but I wondered what other options I have and who to to compare them to.
I have yet to catch anyone with a loud nice sounding exhaust on to see who it's made by. I've heard flowmasters on other vehicles and like the sound, so anything similar would likely be great.
I like the dual rear outlets also, but I've heard I might lose bottom end so I have to decide on that issue too.
I thought you guys might be able to make/share some observations. Any opinions or experiences related to exhaust upgrades would be great... of course stainless is my only real option here in NY though. The salt is just nasty on the roads here!
Thanks in advance, Glen

I would just have a custom exhaust system made to exactly what you want.

Personally I like the Magnaflow better than the Flowmaster. I think the Magnaflow sounds a little deeper the entire rpm range. A friend got the flowmaster after I got my exhaust and it seems to sound a little tinnier at higher rpm. I went with duals out the back corners and did not loose anything as far as power goes. I also have an Airaid intake. Seems to have more power now than before. My friend with the Flowmaster went with duals straight out the back and said it seems like it has more power.
Either way, it will sound better!!! The hard part is keeping your foot out of it!!!
PS. Magnaflow is available in stainless $$$

Thanks, I'll look into Magnaflow too then.
As for keeping your foot out of it... Imagine how much I have to stomp on it now to get it to sound good!! :biggthump
As for a custom system, well I'll have to see how much a stainless custom job would be. I was thinking it would be very expensive.
Thanks again, Glen

Be the first on your block to have one.
Could not tell you what it sounds like of if it even does a bit of good as far as power or mpg increases.
But it does look pretty. :jester:
I myself am running a Gibson system with a Borla muffler. Sound is not loud at all in the cab at cruise, but can be heard outside nicely. Get on it and it sounds great, just like a tuned exhaust and not some hack job system or someone who has a hole in their exhaust.

Exhaust systems available for the 2005-2006 Dakota are kind of limited right now
Magnaflow makes a side exit & duals out the rear....it's only available in Stainless
Gibson makes a side exit, a dual side exit, duals out the rear, & duals out the corners.....available in either Stainless or Aluminized
Flowmaster just released one for our truck...side exit but it's only available in aluminized (with a polished tip though)
And then MBRP has an exhaust now too with duals out the rear & duals out the corners....available in either Stainless or Aluminized but it's $$$$
The Magnaflow or Gibson system (if you want Stainless) is probably gonna be the cheapest for you.
Check out ebay....there's a company selling the Magnaflow side exit new for $438 with free shipping. Submit a best offer of $400.
Or there's someone selling a used (2,000 miles) side exit Magnaflow system for $350 on www.dodgeforum.com though:

I'm gonna get a Magnaflow in the summer....side exit. Best price I found it for was $355. I can pick it up locally from the online seller though.

Thanks for all the help...
I will look into the MBRP and see if anyone knows how they sound. The cost may also play a role...
Hopefully I can make a decision by the time summer comes. Maybe other stainless systems will be made available by then also.
I really wish I could run into somone with a 4.7 dak while out that has a nice sounding stainless exhaust. That would make this much much easier.
Even the sound clips I've heard are hard to get a feel for the true sound. I guess it's a hope and pray it sounds like you want it to product. :jester:
Oh, I had a Borla on my 96 Ram and it was not loud or deep enough for me! It wasn't bad but it didn't have much growl in my opinion. It wasn't tinnie just not deep throaty growl either.
I still have the ram and its' original exhaust, I wonder if I could retrofit the Rams borla to the Dak? Hmmm
Maybe I'll just have to decide between the Gibson and Magnaflow dual rear exit. Does one have a louder deeper roar than the other?
Well, Thanks again, Glen
