Mod from Open to LSD

i have a 98 v6 dak with a open diff, 8.25 axle and 3.55 gears
i want to mod to a lsd. what is involved in this? what is a cheap place to pick up a lsd?

You have to swap the whole carrier, which is something you probably can't do if you have to ask about it (no offense). You can pick up an OEM Trac-lock for $200 here:

Best thing to do would be go to a junkyard and find the rear of an R/T. LSD and 3.90's, two upgrades in one that would cost about the same as installing a new LSD in your 3.55.

i wouldn't do it myself, im just inquiring a little bit about it. is this 200 bucks piece including everything i need (the carrier you mentioned?)
unfortunatly im in germany and there are no junkyards with r/ts or anything even close to dak around

I know I'm bringing this post back from the dead, just FYI, you should change the seals and bearings while you're at it. You should also pick up a set of shims, as I've NEVER seen two different carriers use the same exact shims (if you're doing it yourself).

An easier/cheaper way would be to yank the spider gears and install a "drop-in" locker- no gear setup needed.
