well a couple months ago my buddy was having some trouble with his truck. well something happened and it messed up and i was not able to look at it till last week. i havent looked at it real good but there is no bell housing what he told me was he was driving it on the intersate he hurd a boom and it died and would not turn over and he did not know what the problem is ( he does not know the first thing about truck besides drive) well he broke the manifold in half and the trany is hanging low well he got a newer ram but wonts to fix the dakota. also the dakota is a 3.9 auto what i was looking for is what kinda trany is this? we are going to try and get one from the junkyard and i wont to make sure i get the right one. i dont think he hurt the motor but cant find out for sure till i can drop the trany. also how hard is it to replace a manual window in the drivers door?

Not sure what your buddy has but my old 2000 had a 3.9 and it had a 42RE, 4 speed auto

I donno, from 91-2000 Dakota's changed so much that I doubt it would fit, much less mate with the engine and actually work. But don't take my word on it, I'm not sure.

Probably not, the OD on the newer trucks is electronically controlled and the PCM's would probably not be compatible. I'd recommend contacting one of the tranny shops like APS Precision to ask about the older transmission info.
