Hya, 1st post, I have a '98 Durango and want to upgrade the sound system.
1st thing I am gonna tackle is replacing the stock speakers, but I want to keep the same location and same sizes. Does anyone make a set of speakers that is a good fit for this?
Once I do that I can think about upgrading the stereo and adding a sub system amps etc

All our Ds should have the same size speakers in them. Mine are 6.5" and any after market speaker will fit. I have JL Audio Comp. and had to use the factory speaker ring to bring the speaker past teh window, but that should stop you from doing anything, they still fit behind the door panel. Pick up a Crutchfield catalog and take a look in there, they will tell you want speakers will fit in your truck, check out the site also. Hope this helps.

Are there any good alternate locations for setting speakers behind trim panels
I took off the rear hatch trim panels, but only one side of the hatch could hold a small speaker the other has the light (which could be moved I suppose)

I have not really looked into that to much. I have seen some Ds with 2 speakers in the doors (6.5"s). I guess if you have the money, it can be done.

I just put a whole new system in my durango. I went with a Rockford Fosgate set up. And everything fit. Do you have the Component set up in the front doors. It took me 2 dayz to install my system. But I have a whole new system. I ran all new speaker wire about 100 hundred feet of it. But it sounds good as hell. How much money do you want to spend. That's is the first question u need to ask yourself. I got over a thousand in mine and I'm still not done. (that's including wiring, amp, and the front Component setup and the head unit. When I finish mine I will be able to hit about 140 db. And that's with the third row still be used to sit in. You need to firgure out how much money you want to spend and if you want SQ or SPL. I went with the SQ cause I don't want my kids going death. Do like D-draggin said and found out what fits. But don't buy from Crutchfield cause they are expensive. Sounddomain.com is usually pretty cheap. Most of my stuff came from ebay though. Hope this helps

Yeah I have the component set up in the front doors
I was still eyeing the rear hatch for a possible speaker install.;) If I relocate the light to the center, I can possibly place 2-6" or oval speakers in there with a custom enclosure and not have them sticking out too far
The down side, it that the added weight may cause the hatch to be too heavy for the gas cylinders to lift it ;)
I want to plan out the speakers and locations as much as possible 1st, by that time I'll know the limits of how powerful a sound system to add

With the system I have I don't need anymore speakers. It sounds just a good in the back as it does in the front. If you put speakers in the tailgate I don't think you would really here them cause the sound will project against the back seat. So I don't think you would really here. Plus if you put a box back there I would think the bass from the box would drown them out. But I was thinking of puting speakers in between the second and third row for the people in the third row. But that's just my 2 cents
