door/light dinger

where in the hell is that annoying door/ inter. light dinger at on a 2001 dakota????? that thing is driving me up a freaking wall!!!!!!!!

heres something i always wonder bout my 00, wheres the button in the door for this?

I recently disabled mine in my 02 durango. It was a kind of crude way, but it works. Under the driver side kick panel there is a black box with 3 wire harnesses goin into it. There are 3 phillips head screws holding up. After you take those out, you can see the little clips that hold the box together. Pop those apart and you'll have a big circuit board. The "dinger" is the black circle shaped thing with a small hole in the top of it. Now, I suppose you could take a soldering gun and heat up the solder on the chime and pull it out, but i just took some needle nose pliers and broke the top of it off. Then you'll see a silver disk. Thats what seems to make the "dinging" louder. Take a small screwdriver, or dental pick and just raise that disk up and pull it out. Now put it back together.

why not figure out what wires are what and just splice them and just bypass it?

You'd have to figure out what wires controls the key in the ignition, the wire for the lights being on, the wire for the door being opened, etc. It just seemed easier to disable the actual chime. It wasn't hard, it took about 5 minutes.

If you just want to shut the dinger off with the door open the switch to it is actually part of the door latch. All you do is close the latch like the door is closed and the dinging will go away. Don't try to close the door until you have unlatched it though.

Uhhh, if you just want the dinger to stop while the door is open....
Turn the key to ACC, (or remove it) open the door. If it's dinging, close the door. Open the door again and the dinger shouldn't come on. It works on my 98 D.
