Unbolt the old stuff. Put the new pedestals in the rocker seats with the bolts through the holes and set the pair of rockers on the head. Make sure the pushrods are seated and torque each side down little by little alternating to make sure each pair goes on the head evenly. Then torque them down to 21 ftlbs. Repeat 7 more times and you're done.

OK 1 of my rockers seems to be a little off to the side because when i put the pedestal in and the bolt it gets real hard to move it. The others move real easy.

Do you mean that it's hard to move it before it even gets bolted in? That can't be good. Or if you're talking about when you're screwing it in, it could be cause the valve is open and you have to compress the spring down by tightening the rocker stud.

Its not on the truck yet and i put the screw and the pedestal on it and its real hard to move...it looks like it not over enough and its rubing the side of it.

Any updates on this? I've got my HS RR's ready to install in about 1000mi (gonna do it on the next oil change) and I'm curious what the cause was.

I got mine ready to go on also and would like more detailed info.
"Just unbolt the old stuff and bolt on the new stuff" aint enough info to work with.
For instance, obviously the old studs have to be removed. Any tips or tricks for that process?? Plus if I figure it right, the black round base that comes with the kit must go with the bigger round part against the head right?? And then the rocker fits over the smaller section with the bolt going thru the center of it all. Then torque to 20-21ftlbs. Thats how I am seeing it. Am I close?? I would like to do this right the first time.

Thanks

Update: Got it fixed that night just grinded a little off of the rocker, worked perfect. The install is pretty simple pull off the valve covers, than remove the old rockers, put the new rockers on ( the bigger part of the pedestal touches the head, smallerpart goes into the rocker) . Make sure all the push rods go in there place. Then torque them down to 21 ft lbs. Disconnect the ignition coil and try and turn the truck on till you see oil on the rockers (about 30 seconds). Then put your valve covers back on and plug the coil back up and start the truck up and go have fun :) I pulled my valve covers off after about 50 miles and retorqued them.

Let use know if your run into any kind of problems.

Just curious...Did they need to be retorqued?

Nope they were all still torqued to specs.

Dakrt7:

I assume you installed 1.7's. What were the gains? Do you notice noise under the valve covers? Was the install worth the gains?

I installed a set of the HS 1:7 rollers on my Dakota R/T and it made a world of difference. Easy install and after about 2,000 miles still no problems. I also changed the push rods for a little higher rev ability.
